As reported in an earlier post, Viviane from Generation 2 represented EuroAquae at the General Assembly of the EMA in Budapest on the 24th and 25th of June 2011. Viviane was kind enough to report on her experiences from the General Assembly.

Viviane writes:

… the issues we have on Euro Aquae (quality assurance, diplomas, course contents, mobility,et. [sic]) are common to many other master courses and the comission [sic] is aware of most of them and open to receive inputs.

Furthermore she feels that:

… I would like to stress the message about the importance of participating and contributing with your ideas, opinions and disagreements, because that is the only way we can be heard. As we won’t be heard individually.

Her full account of the event is available on the EAAA Forums.

Several former EuroAquae students and students related to EuroAquae, e.g. through Action 3 and HydroAsia, participated in this years “International Conference on Hydroinformatics” held in Tianjin, China during the second week of September.
One of the students was Carolina Furlan (G4) who shared her experiences with us.
Carolina had the great opportunity to present a paper of her project work at SUEZ Environment (France). It was very interesting for her to observe what kind of tools and methods people all around the world are developing to analyze floods and manage urban waters. However, the conference didn’t only focus on flood management and urban waters but offered a great portfolio of subjects. In addition, the conference was a great platform for networking and gave the participants the opportunity to make new contacts in the professional field. Carolina even had the chance to meet some “celebrities”, such as Mr. Abbott who all of us should be familiar with because of the numerical methods he developed. It also gave her the opportunity to visit China and to meet former EuroAquae students living and working in China.

Mike Abbot, Carolina and Prof. Goubersville

In summary, Carolina was able to see the development of the use of hydroinformatc tools to analyze, manage and solve problems in the water sector. She expects that this development will continue so that EuroAquae students will also not have problems in the future to find good jobs 😉
The next “International Conference on Hydroinformatics” takes place in 2012 in Hamburg, Germany. The focus will be on recent advances in mathematical modeling, evaluating the impact of climate change on the hydrological cycle and the consequences for society and environment. The EAAA hopes for a great number of participants from the EuroAquae community!!

HydroAsia 2010: A Report

The 4th edition of HydroAsia was held in University of Incheon (South Korea) from 12th – 20th August, 2010. It was attended by nearly 40 students from 10 different countries including South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, France, Spain, Germany, Singapore and India. Among those six are from EuroAquae Masters program (1 from G4, 1 from G5 and 4 from G6). The participants worked on the urban flooding problem that occurred in Incheon and came up with engineering solutions using different hydroinformatic tools.

The intensive one week program comprised of teamwork, lectures and field trips. Apart from working as a team, lectures were given on the related topic by various professors from the participating universities. The field trip to Incheon downtown was helpful in understanding the problem better and for applying the gained knowledge in finding the desired solutions. Each team had brainstorming sessions with the team advisors for finding the solutions.

At the end, each team got 20 minutes to present their work and also on the team specific topic. One team was awarded the best team of HydroAsia 2010 based on the presentation and one of the participants was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) considering all the aspects. After working hours, we also had a chance to experience Korean culture. Some of our Korean friends took us to Seoul for sightseeing. We also got a chance to taste delicious Korean food.

On the last day of HydroAsia, the management had arranged for a traditional Korean dinner. After stuffing our tummies, it was the time to say goodbye to all our friends. Within a week, we developed a strong bond of friendship which we felt when the time came for bidding farewell. We’ll stay in touch forever friends!!
Kamsa Hamnidha (Thanks) and Thoma Nayo (Good bye) Incheon!! See you again next year with different set of student.

EuroAquae graduates after receiving their certificates

The preparations for the graduation ceremony were done by former EuroAquae students [Anne (G4), Vikram (G2) and Chi Yu (G2)], our very own Nadine Taube (G5) and the EuroAquae Management at BTU Cottbus. EuroAquae Alumni Association (EAAA) takes this opportunity to thank Frau Nele Zechel, EuroAquae course coordinator at BTU Cottbus for arranging such a wonderful ceremony. Our special thanks to Ms. Nadine Taube without who it wouldn’t have been possible for us to have such a grand ceremony. The diploma distribution was followed by a video presentation prepared by G5 students showing the sweet memories during our two year journey. This was followed by the photo session and drinks.
The management had arranged an official lunch at Mensa (University Canteen at BTU). After the delicious lunch, we started walking towards Branitz Park talking about the journey over the past two years. Sweet aroma of BBQ welcomed us when we came back from the park. We continued talking about our experiences over the past two years. In the end, it was time to bid farewell to all our friends.
